STUDENT OF THE MONTH

March 2022

Maggie Schaefer

Yankton High School senior, Maggie Schaefer, has been named March Student of the Month by Horizon
Health Care and Hot Country 93.1. She was nominated by a teacher at Yankton High School, who said
that despite odds going against her, she is the hardest working student the instructor knows.

““She left (school) for almost two weeks for extreme medical reasons, and, when she came back, she had all her work completed, notes taken, questions written on sticky notes, and a smile on her face.”

– YHS Nominator

Schaefer is a four year, 4.0 GPA student. She is also member of the National Honor Society, Science
Olympiad, oral interpretation, student council, and HOSA (Future Health Professionals) at YHS. As a
sophomore Schaefer was the lone attendee to the HOBY leadership camp and published a poem in a
student written book. Outside of the classroom, Schaefer was a successful member of the Gazelles Girls
Tennis team finishing as state runner-up in flight one singles and doubles in 2021.

Hobbies and interests of Schaefer include walking, playing with her dog, playing piano, and reading.
Schaefer is the son of Jaime and Chris Schaefer of Yankton. After high school she plans to attend
Creighton University and major in biochemistry.
