STUDENT OF THE MONTH

February 2022

Elijah Upton

Yankton High School senior, Elijah Upton, has been named Feb Student of the Month by Horizon Health Care and Hot Country 93.1. He was nominated by officials at his school, who say he has led the student body at Yankton High School with maturity, respect, and kindness.

“He has organized teacher appreciation activities, written thank you/appreciation cards to staff and students, listened and conversed with superior maturity, and spread kindness like it’s the only possible action to perform.”

Upton is the former student council president, current senior class president, and National Honor Society President.

He also finds time to volunteer at New Life Church and VFW Post 791 and is a candidate for the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program.

Hobbies and interests of Upton include cooking, running, biking, longboarding, ice skating and hanging out with his friends.

Upton is the son of Doug and Pam Upton. After high school he plans to attend the South Dakota School of Mines and major in civil engineering.

The “Student of the Month” is awarded through a partnership of Horizon Health Care and Hot Country 93.1 in Yankton, South Dakota and recognizes exceptional students in the Yankton School District. Horizon Health Care offers health care and dental services to the cities of Yankton, Elk Point, and Alcester in the Hot Country 93.1 listening area.

Beginning January of 2022 a student of the month is selected each month of the school year.  Horizon Health Care selects an outstanding student and awards them with a recognition certificate and a small token, and is recognized on Hot Country 93.1 radio. Officials from Yankton High School nominate students for the award.

Addison Sedlacek

Yankton High School junior, Addison Sedlacek, has been named January Student of the Month by Horizon Health Care and Hot Country 93.1. She was nominated by officials at her school, who say she is the type of person that the world needs more of.

“Addison carries herself with such poise, confidence, and integrity and is beyond kind and generous”

Sedlacek participates in track and field, is a member of student council, and is the secretary of extracurricular activities at YHS. She was also elected to emcee the Gong Show at YHS and has been listed on the role of excellence.

Outside of school, Sedlacek works at River City Relics and enjoys hanging out with classmates and spending time outside and at the lake.

Sedlacek is the daughter of Tom and Jennifer Sedlacek. After high school she plans to attend the University of South Dakota and major is business administration.
