Blake Shelton, Eric Church, Dan + Shay, Brothers Osborne and Jimmie Allen are among the first round of just-announced performers at the 2021 Country Music Association Awards.

Blake will share a live rendition of “Come Back As a Country Boy,” his brand-new single. The song will be included on the deluxe version of his Body Language album, which is set for release in December.

A couple of exciting collaborations are already on the books, too. Mickey Guyton will perform, bringing rising act Brittney Spencer and soul-jazz singer-songwriter Madeline Edwards to the stage with her. They’ll treat fans to a live version of a song off Mickey’s new album, Remember Her Name.

Also, Carly Pearce and Ashley McBryde will join forces for a performance of “Never Wanted to Be That Girl,” which comes from the track list of Carly’s latest project, 29: Written in Stone.

More performers are expected to be announced in the weeks ahead. Luke Bryan is hosting the show solo this year.

After a controversial name change and a

After a controversial name change and a "midlife crisis," Lady A doubles down on 'What a Song Can Do'

Big Machine

On Friday, Lady A's eighth studio album, What a Song Can Do, arrives, completing the cycle started by June's seven-song Chapter One.

Recorded "around the same time" as the EP, the seven new tracks were chosen from "up to sixty songs" Hillary ScottCharles Kelley and Dave Haywood wrote during the pandemic.

"Obviously, we finished [2019's] Ocean, we were preparing for that tour, and had to cancel it because of the pandemic," Dave recalls. "So we just put our heads down and started writing for an indefinite amount of time. We didn't know how long the pandemic was gonna last, and so we just wrote and wrote and wrote, kind of like we did for our very first album."

The album's bouncy lead single, "Like a Lady," doesn't begin to hint at the deeper messages on What a Song Can Do, as Charles explains.

"I feel like I had kind of my midlife crisis this past couple years of just, 'What's our purpose going through all the stuff we went through?'" he says, "and feeling like some of your intentions got twisted and misinterpreted, obviously, with our name change and all these things."

"And it was like it only brought us stronger in our conviction of what we want to represent as a band," he adds.

Charles affirms there's no doubt what that is, as Hillary agrees.

"Nothing is going to deter us from trying to leave our mark in a positive way," he proclaims. "[There's] a little bit more determination -- not just survival, and trying to make sure we stay on the radio, making sure we can maintain this certain level of success -- but actually going like, 'What are we leaving behind?'"

Reba McEntire’s 'Revived Remixed Revisited' box set breaks onto multiple Billboard charts

Reba McEntire’s 'Revived Remixed Revisited' box set breaks onto multiple Billboard charts

UMG Nashville

Reba McEntire is making her way up multiple Billboard charts this week, including her first-ever foray into the Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales chart, thanks to her new triple disc, Revived Remixed Revisited.

The project also lands her in the number-eight spot on Billboard’s all-genre Top Album Sales, and at number 12 on Top Country Albums, Billboard reports.

One song off the project, a version of “Does He Love You” reimagined as a duet with Dolly Parton, has also earned Reba a spot just inside the Billboard Hot Country Songs top 50. It’s actually the second time that song has been on the chart: The original version, a duet with Linda Davis, topped the Hot Country Songs chart after its initial release in 1993.

Revived Remixed Revisited came out earlier this month. The three-disc set takes a look back at Reba’s lengthy catalogue of hits, providing three different kinds of new versions of the songs. One disc is a collection of dance mixes, one offers stripped-down versions of the songs, and the third showcases fan favorite songs with new arrangements inspired by Reba’s live set.

Scotty McCreery brings his newest single, “Damn Strait,” to the Kelly Clarkson Show stage

Scotty McCreery brings his newest single, “Damn Strait,” to the Kelly Clarkson Show stage

Jeff Ray

Scotty McCreery reconnected with a fellow American Idol alum -- Kelly Clarkson -- this week, stopping by the stage of her talk show to perform his latest single, “Damn Strait.”

Coming off his new Same Truck album, “Damn Strait” is a heartbroken ballad paying tribute to the King of Country, told from the perspective of someone who can’t listen to his favorite George Strait songs because they remind him of the girl who left him behind.

“Damn Strait” hit country radio airwaves last week, and since then, it’s picked up more station adds than any other song in Scotty’s career to date. The new single follows his latest number-one hit, “You Time.”

Meanwhile, American Idol is gearing up for a new season. Representing the country music contingent is Luke Bryan, who will return for another season as a judge.

Luke Bryan’s wife Caroline once slept on a makeshift bed of suitcases on his tour bus

Luke Bryan’s wife Caroline once slept on a makeshift bed of suitcases on his tour bus

ABC/Image Group LA

Luke Bryan may be a massively successful country star these days, but early on in his career, both he and his wife Caroline made plenty of sacrifices so that he could chase his dream.

Specifically, Caroline says in a new appearance on the Uncut with Jay Cutler podcast, she gave up the comforts of sleeping in a bed. During one early tour, the singer’s wife came up with a particularly creative sleeping situation -- with the couple’s then-newborn baby, Bo, in tow.

“When Luke was starting out, you know, you’re on one bus. And Bo Bryan was six, seven weeks old,” Caroline remembers. “We would tour with Luke, because he wanted us there. We would sleep on suitcases in the back of the bus.”

At the time, she says, she put Luke in a bunk so that he could be rested for his shows.

“And me and Bo would make a pallet with suitcases. Seriously. And there’s where I slept with an infant. And I’d get up and I’d make bottles in the night,” she continues. “Looking back now, I’m like, ‘How the hell did I do that?’”

Much has changed since then for the country superstar family. Not only is Luke a massively successful country artist, but the couple also recently starred in a series of Jockey commercials. More recently, Luke’s gearing up for the next season of American Idol, where he’ll return as a judge.

Carrie Underwood reveals what she wouldn’t put up with from her husband, “If I Didn’t Love You”

Connie Chronuk/ABC

Carrie Underwood is exposing her husband’s bad habits in a hilarious new TikTok video centered around her latest single, a duet with Jason Aldean called “If I Didn’t Love You.”

As the song plays in the background, Carrie pans the camera to piles of laundry on the floor, taxidermied animals hanging on the walls and an out-of-control hat collection. “I must truly love him...Who can relate?” she wrote in the caption of her video.

The hit duet will feature on Jason’s upcoming album, Macon, which is due out November 12. Carrie recently revealed that she and Jason had planned to work together for years, explaining, “I feel like I always knew at some point I’d probably sing with him officially, and this just seemed like the stars were aligning and it just seemed like it was going to be the perfect fit.”

“If I Didn’t Love You” is currently nearing the top spot at country radio.

Eric Church’s “Heart on Fire” video tips its hat to his past hits

Joe Pugliese

Eric Church adds another layer of nostalgia to his hard-rocking anthem, “Heart on Fire,” with a music video that looks back at the history of the singer’s career.

Only true fans of the Chief will catch all the subtle references that the clip includes to past hit songs and videos. That emphasis on staying loyal to his fan base is par for the course for Eric: He has a long history of releasing new music to his Church Choir fan club first, and his latest triple album, Heart & Soul, contains one disc that he made available exclusively on vinyl for Church Choir members.

No detail is too small in the “Heart on Fire” video. For example, even the singer’s older hairstyles make an appearance in the clip.

“Heart on Fire” is currently inside country radio’s top 25. It’s the third single to come off of Heart & Soul, following “Stick That in Your Country Song” and the chart-topping “Hell of a View.”

Elvie Shane secures his first #1 with "a God song," the emotional "My Boy"

BBR Music Group

This week, newcomer Elvie Shane reaches the pinnacle of the country chart with his debut single, "My Boy."

While the moving take on step-fatherhood is several years old, Elvie and his co-writers knew from the very beginning it was special.

"From the day we wrote that song, we've called it a God song, and we felt like it was a gift," Elvie tells ABC Audio. "And I like to say it was like four years before I wrote another song that anybody was interested in doing anything with. So there's the proof in the pudding, right?"

Now that Caleb, the inspiration behind "My Boy," is a teenager, Elvie says his stepson is just beginning to realize the significance of the song.

"He was only nine, ten when I wrote the song, so not much response out of him at that age, not really having a grasp on the emotion or what the song really meant," Elvie reveals. "But I have seen that song grow with my son, and I've seen our love grow during the life of this song."

He continues, "And I think, you know, at this point, he's really realizing what a blessing this song has been and how much it's done for our family and how much it's, you know, doing for our family at this point in our lives."

Elvie's family continues to grow, as he and his wife, Mandi, welcomed a baby girl they named Zaelyn Journey in July. His full-length debut, titled Backslider, arrives October 29.

Kane Brown shares sweet video of his daughter dancing to his song

ABC

Cuteness overload! Before a recent show, Kane Brown captured a sweet moment of his two-year-old daughter Kingsley dancing around the stage, and by the looks of it, she takes after her dad's love of music.

Donning a pair of noise-cancelling headphones and a pink fuzzy bunny-ear headband to match, Kingsley can be seen moving and shaking on stage along to the instrumental beat as the band rehearses one of her dad's songs in the background.

The superstar himself gets in on the fun, too, swaying and shaking his hips alongside the infant. Kingsley gets particularly excited during the breakdown, running in circles around the stage.

"Adorable Katelyn and Kane love this," a fan comments. "She is absolutely precious!! The love this family shows is beautiful. Thanks for sharing," praises another, while yet another fan predicts, "She is too cute. They are going to come to see her sing soon."

Kane and his wife Katelyn welcomed Kingsley in October 2019. Kane's in the midst of his Blessed & Free Tour, which continues through early next year.

"Yoooooooo! Just wrote this one!!! Somebody please put a verse on thissssss," the singer excitedly writes in the caption.

"That sounds awesome dude!!" one fan cheered in the comments, with another raving, "Give it to us RD!!!!" accompanied by several fire emojis.

Darius Rucker can inspire a "Masterpiece," but he "can't play piano like Ray Charles"

David McClister

When Darius Rucker sings "I can't play piano like Ray Charles" in his latest hit, "My Masterpiece," he's telling the absolute truth.

But it's not for lack of trying.

"The one thing that I'm starting to do... is I'm learning to play piano," he told reporters in August of 2020. "I got this big keyboard in my house...And so finally, I'm going online and taking probably, you know, an hour a day, four or five days a week, and trying to learn how to play that thing."

By February of this year, however, Darius confessed he hadn't exactly been keeping up with his piano lessons.

"Oh, of course, I didn't stick with it, come on!" he laughs. "This is me. Come on! Of course, I didn't. I took two lessons and haven't been back on the piano since."

The experience did inspire a line in his latest single, however.

"The funny thing is, one of the guys I write with saw an interview with me and he was talking about me playing the piano," Darius explains, "And... one of the lines I used was, 'I can't play piano like Ray Charles.' And now that's like the big payoff in the song... because it was just so funny."

Darius adds, joking, "I can't play piano like, you know, David Charles right now. I'm awful! I didn't even stick with it. I should have."

"We have done it": Elvie Shane hits #1 with "My Boy"

BBR Music Group

Elvie Shane has a lot to celebrate these days, but at the top of the list is "My Boy" reaching #1 on country radio.

The Kentucky-born singer has achieved his first #1 hit with his debut single, a song that conveys the love between a stepfather and his son. As a stepfather to his wife Mandi's 14-year-old son, the song is deeply personal for the singer.

"We have done it. Number-one song in country music baby is 'My Boy,'" Elvie shares in an Instagram video celebrating his debut hit. "People told me for years that this song would be a #1 song, and about two-and-a-half weeks ago, I found myself doubting that for just a moment."

The new chart-topper jokes that he celebrated the monumental occasion by changing a dirty diaper of his and Mandi's three-month-old daughter, Zaelyn.

"I appreciate you guys so much for the love and support over the last year that this song has been on the radio. I am beside myself," he continues in the video to his fans. "I am beyond blessed. Thank you, guys. I love you so much."

"My Boy" is the lead single off Elvie's debut album, Backslider, set for release on October 29.

Why Carrie Underwood calls her duet with Jason Aldean "the perfect fit"

Connie Chronuk/ABC

Jason Aldean and Carrie Underwood's duet, "If I Didn't Love You," was years in the making.

While the duet may have come as a surprise to some, Carrie reveals that she and Jason have been plotting for years to set up a collaboration. While the pair have teamed up for live performances over the years, including a cover of Guns N' Roses' "Paradise City" at the 2010 CMA Fest, this marks their first official studio duet.

“Jason asked if I would sing ‘If I Didn’t Love You’ with him. I knew I liked the song, and Jason and I have actually been trying to do things together over the years," Carrie says. "We’ve sang together before, but we’ve never officially recorded anything together. It just kind of felt like this could be our moment."

Carrie continues: "I felt like it was a little bit of an unexpected duet to other people, but I feel like I always knew at some point I’d probably sing with him officially, and this just seemed like the stars were aligning and it just seemed like it was going to be the perfect fit."

Ryan Hurd calls wife Maren Morris a "really great mom"

Nicki Fletcher

Ryan Hurd has nothing but praise for wife Maren Morris in her role as mother to their son Hayes

The husband and wife pair welcomed Hayes in March 2020, and Ryan says it's been a joy to watch his wife blossom into motherhood. He jokingly admits that he knew she was excelling as a parent when he got home one day to find that Maren had taught their infant son an advanced skill in his absence.

"Maren's a really great mom and it's cool to watch her learn how to do that," Ryan tells Entertainment Tonight. "I didn't realize how good of a mom she was until I got back and he had learned flash cards. I was like 'I don't do that, should I be doing flashcards? I didn't know we had flash cards.'"

The couple met as songwriters in 2013 during a writing session that resulted in Tim McGraw's "Last Turn Home," marking Maren's first cut as a songwriter. It is one of many major successes the couple has experienced together, including their duet, "Chasing After You," that's racing up the charts, currently inside the top 10 on country radio.

"It was cool to have that moment with her. You see the rocket ship take off and you're like 'but I was there at the start,' and that's cool," Ryan reflects, adding that he and Maren's dream was to move to Nashville and be songwriters. "We both get to do it and we both to get to be passionate about our side of it and also passionate about the other person at the same time. It's really cool to be in a relationship with somebody who feels the same thing."

Ryan's debut album, Pelago, is out now.

'Dancing' daddy Jimmie Allen reveals the strategy that's pushing him closer to the mirrorball

ABC/Eric McCandless

Jimmie Allen's coming off a big week, as he heads into "Grease Night" this evening on Dancing with the Stars

Not only did he and his wife Alexis Gale welcome their second daughter, Zara James, over the weekend, he also just turned in his best performance of the season last Tuesday on Disney Villains Night.

Part of Jimmie's strategy has been to learn everything he can from folks who've done well on the show before.

"I was actually FaceTiming Lauren [Alaina] today, talking about the Rumba," he told ABC Audio earlier in the season. "Talked to NellyAJ McLean and I talked to Chuck [Wicks]. I talked to Nick Carter, talked to Donald DriverDeMarcus Ware, talked to BabyFace -- a bunch of people that did it."

"You know, it's been super cool," Jimmie continues. "Rashad Jennings, he actually won it with my partner Emma [Slater]. Kaitlyn Bristowe, that won it last year, I talked to her yesterday. It was super cool."

Jimmie's also relying on country fans to come through for him.

"Oh, yeah! Listen, them country music fans show up!" he says excitedly. "Okay, they show up! And I'm hoping they graded me low, so they can see the growth, and then I can come back next and try to get better."

"Because I don't wanna jump from sixes and fives to nines and tens..." he explains. "I kinda wanna work my way up. I don't wanna go too high too fast."

So far, it's a plan that seems to be working.

Tonight, tune in to see Jimmie dance the Foxtrot to "Sandy," starting at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.

“Glow”: Chris Stapleton teams with Kelly Clarkson for a festive new duet

Atlantic Records

Kelly Clarkson’s holiday project, When Christmas Comes Around, arrived on Friday, and the track list boasts some impressive collaborators. Among them is Chris Stapleton, who lends his voice to one particularly soulful song, “Glow.”

Kelly and Chris trade verses on the song, a love ballad about the one special person who’s missing from an otherwise perfect Christmas.

“Nothin’ has changed, I still wish you could be / Wrapped up in my arms, spendin’ Christmas with me,” the pair harmonize in the chorus. “When it gets cold is when I notice the most / With all the lights on the trees, even Christmas can’t compete with your glow...”

This is the first time Kelly’s ever teamed with Chris, but the pop star’s no stranger to country collaborations in general. In fact, “Under the Mistletoe” -- her duet with Brett Eldredge -- is a bonus track on When Christmas Comes Around.

Kelly also snagged a number-one country hit back in 2011, thanks to her duet with Jason Aldean, “Don’t You Wanna Stay.”

Jordan Davis + Luke Bryan put an intimate, acoustic new spin on “Buy Dirt”

UMG Nashville

Jordan Davis and Luke Bryan reunite this week for a new version of “Buy Dirt,” a duet that originally came out as the title track of Jordan’s May EP.

This time around, the two stars trade verses on a stripped-down, acoustic version that highlights the song’s message. A new video shows Jordan and Luke performing the song from two bar stools, putting an emphasis on the song’s advice for leading a simple, happy life.

When Jordan first released “Buy Dirt,” he explained that he wanted Luke on the track because the country superstar embodies the message behind the song.

“Luke isn't just a great entertainer; he's a great dad, a great husband, and a great friend, too," Jordan explained. "That's what 'Buy Dirt' embodies. When I wrote 'Buy Dirt,' I knew he could relate to the song's message."

“Buy Dirt” also lends its name to Jordan’s headlining tour, which kicked off in September. Beginning this month, the singer is also a supporting act on Kane Brown’s Blessed and Free Tour.

Following “Fancy Like,” Walker Hayes serves up another dose of twang-filled swagger with “U Gurl”

Matt Bacnis

Hot on the heels of his viral hit, “Fancy Like,” Walker Hayes returns with another taste of his signature rhythm, swagger and authenticity. This time, it’s “U Gurl,” a playfully sultry ode to his partner.

“With ‘U Gurl’ we wanted to capture that feeling when you look at your significant other and you just can’t take your eyes off them, yet in a fresh way,” the singer says. “I get that feeling every day when I look at my wife.”

Walker’s been teasing the release of “U Gurl” all week, and he’s already shared a TikTok dance to go along with the song. Just like the dance that helped send “Fancy Like” viral, the new moves are the brainchild of Walker and his teenage daughter, Lela.

Walker will debut the live version of “U Gurl” tonight during a show in Waco, Texas. Fans worldwide can tune in when it livestreams on Walker’s socials at 10 p.m. CT.

“If I Was a Cowboy”: Miranda Lambert imagines a different kind of life in her new single

Miranda Lambert is kicking off a new musical chapter on Friday, with the release of her dreamy, mid-tempo new single, “If I Was a Cowboy.”

The track paints a picture of life out on the open plains in the West, chasing freedom on horseback and seeing the world from under the brim of a Stetson hat.

Miranda co-wrote the song with acclaimed Nashville producer Jesse Frasure, whom she met earlier this year while working on a very different kind of project: The dance remix of her song, “Tequila Does.”

Both creators behind “If I Was a Cowboy” had to dig into their imaginations to write the song, Miranda explains, as neither of them have much personal experience with the Wild West. “It’s funny, he’s a Detroit boy, and I’m an East Texan, but somehow we wrote a song about the Wild West together,” she notes.

“If I Was a Cowboy” hits radio next week. In addition to gearing up for new solo music, Miranda recently announced that her band The Pistol Annies -- also featuring Angaleena Presley and Ashley Monroe -- will have a new Christmas album out this year.
