Mount Marty football picked up the biggest win in the history of their young program on Saturday, defeating the #7-ranked Northwestern Red Raiders 24-14 at Crane-Youngworth Field.
Quarterback Rugby Ryken threw for 241 yards and a touchdown in the win. Malachy Harts and Jhymir Pearson both found the endzone in the rushing game.
Arthur Oliver led the Lancer defense with two interceptions, with his second sealing the game with 1:47 remaining in the fourth quarter.
The Lancers improve to 3-0 with the win. They will take on Briar Cliff on Saturday with the Catholic Cup on the line. Kickoff from Crane-Youngworth Field is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
Yankton Bucks Football improved to 3-0 last Friday night with a 63-6 victory over the Douglas Patriots.
Jace Sedlacek rushed for 139 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead the Bucks offense. The defense returned four interceptions for touchdowns, including two by Gavin Johnson.
The Bucks travel to Harrisburg for their next game, taking on the Tigers on Saturday, September 20th.
Yankton Bucks Golf placed fourth in their home invitational last Friday, shooting 319 as a team at Hillcrest.
Easton Vellek tied for 3rd individually to lead the Bucks, carding a 1-over 73. O’Gorman claimed the team title, shooting 299.
Yankton travels to Brookings today for their next competition. Tee time is set for 10:00 AM at Brookings Country Club.
Mount Marty Volleyball fell to 6-6 on Saturday, as they were defeated by Doane 3-1 in Crete, Nebraska.
The Lancers took set two of the match 25-23, with the Tigers winning the other three sets 25-23, 25-18, and 25-20.
Jaya Wachholtz posted 13 kills for MMU, followed by Caitlin Guenther with 10. Julia Weber tallied team highs in assists (33), digs (17), blocks (5), and aces (4).
The Lancers are home Wednesday night, taking on Hastings inside Cimpl Arena. First serve is set for 7:30 PM, with pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV beginning at 7:00. Tehl Tanner will be on the call.
Mount Marty Men’s Soccer improved to 2-1 on Saturday, as they defeated Crown College 3-1 in St. Bonifacius, Minnesota.
Zach Hebda and Oliver Danzer scored the opening two goals for the Lancers, both assisted by Lukas Amaya. Samuel Badmus sealed the 3-1 win with a penalty kick with under ten minutes to play.
The Lancers are back on the road on Saturday for their next game, taking on Dakota Wesleyan in Mitchell. Kickoff is set for 5:00 PM.
Mount Marty Women’s Soccer fell in a road matchup on Saturday, 4-2 to Bellevue University in Bellevue, Nebraska.
Alexia Valdez and Kamil Bennett scored for the Lancers, with Avery Kimball picking up an assist. Brooklyn McNac recorded 15 saves in the loss.
The Lancers are back on the road on Saturday for their next game, taking on Dakota Wesleyan in Mitchell. Kickoff is set for 7:30 PM.
Mount Marty Cross Country placed 4th in the men’s division at this past weekend’s Sunflower Open in Sioux Center, Iowa.
The Lancers were led by Joseph Cross, who finished 3rd in the event. Former Lancer Logan Ferrari won the race, competing unattached. For the Lancer women, Alexis Gosch was 41st and Lilly Whiteshirt was 47th.
Next up for MMU is the Wildcat Open on Friday in Wayne, Nebraska.
Yankton Cross Country placed 1st in the girls’ division and 2nd in the boys’ division at the Lynx Invitational on Saturday in Brandon.
The Gazelles placed four runners in the top 10, Avery Wuestewald in 6th, Nora Youmans in 8th, Rilyn Jackson in 9th, and Abby Johanneson in 10th. Delaney Youmans finished just outside the top 10 in 11th.
For the Bucks, all Yankton runners finished inside the top 20, with Harrison Krajewski (6th) and Bryton Olson (7th) placing in the top 10.
Next up for Yankton is the Norfolk Invite in Norfolk, Nebraska, on Friday. Races begin at 10:00 AM.

LJ Phillips Jr. etched his name into the Coyote football record books on Saturday, as South Dakota defeated Northern Colorado 24-17 in overtime.
Phillips Jr. logged 35 carries for USD, rushing for 301 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Phillips Jr. became the second USD rusher to have 300+ rushing yards in a game and the first in the Division I FCS era.
The Coyotes are now 1-2 on the season, as they prepare for the Drake Bulldogs on Saturday. Kickoff from Vermillion is set for 1:00 PM.
The South Dakota State Jackrabbits moved to 3-0 to start their football season with a 37-21 win over Drake on Saturday.
Quarterback Chase Mason completed 18 of his 25 passes for 225 yards and a touchdown in the win. Running back Julius Loughridge (Low-ridge) ran for 83 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
The Jackrabbits are on a bye this week, before returning to action with a home game against Mercyhurst on September 27th.
The Nebraska Cornhuskers rolled to another dominant win on Saturday, defeating Houston Christian 59-7.
Dylan Raiola threw for 222 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the win. Emmett Johnson led the running back room for the Huskers with two touchdowns and 78 rushing yards.
The Huskers open Big Ten Conference play this coming Saturday, taking on the Michigan Wolverines in Lincoln. Kickoff is set for 2:30 PM.
