Yankton Post 12 advanced to the penultimate day of the Class A Legion Baseball State Tournament yesterday, defeating Renner Post 307 5-4 in ten innings.

Yankton tallied eight hits as a team, all from different players. Tate Beste drove in a pair of runs, while Kael Garry’s RBI single in the top of the 10th ended up being the game-winner. Beste would earn the win on the mound, striking out three batters over 4 and 2/3rds innings of scoreless relief.

The loss eliminates Renner from the tournament. Rapid City Post 22’s 14-4 win over Watertown eliminates the hosts as well, leaving four teams remaining.

Class A Legion State Tournament (Day Three Results – 7/31)

• #2 Yankton defeated #5 Renner 5-4. Renner is eliminated from the tournament.
• #1 Rapid City Post 22 defeated #3 Watertown 14-4. Watertown is eliminated from the tournament.
• #7 Harrisburg defeated #8 Rapid City Post 320 6-5.

 

Class A Legion State Tournament (Day Four Schedule – 8/1)

• #2 Yankton vs #8 Rapid City Post 320 (Elimination game).
• #1 Rapid City Post 22 vs #7 Harrisburg. If Rapid City loses, they are eliminated. If Harrisburg loses, three teams will remain heading into the final day of the tournament.

 

The Hillcrest Pro-Am Golf tournament began yesterday in Yankton at Hillcrest Golf and Country Club.

Crofton’s Eric Baily leads the amateur event after shooting a 6-under 66 on day one. Zander Winston of Richardson, Texas, leads the pro division with a 64.

The Pro-Am continues today and runs through Sunday.

 

The Crofton Bluejays will be either Rep #2 or Rep #3 for District 6B after their 7-0 shutout of Lesterville yesterday in Wynot.

With the loss, Lesterville is eliminated from postseason contention, while Crofton’s Rep slot will depend on results in the remaining games of the tournament.

In last night’s final contest, the Wynot Expos advanced to the district championship with a 6-3 win over Irene.

Irene still has a chance to be a District 6B rep, as they’ll play Freeman today. The winner is either Rep #2 or Rep #3, while the loser is eliminated.

Thursday, July 24th:

• G1: #4 Lesterville defeated #5 Crofton 10-7.

Friday, July 25th:

• G2: #3 Freeman lost to #6 Irene 10-8.
• G3: #2 Wynot defeated #7 Menno 4-0.

Sunday, July 27th:

• G4: #5 Crofton defeated #7 Menno 13-8 (Menno is eliminated).

Tuesday, July 29th:

• G5: #1 Tabor defeated #4 Lesterville 11-8.
• G6: #2 Wynot vs #6 Irene was postponed to Thursday due to the weather.

Thursday, July 31st:

• G6: #2 Wynot defeated #6 Irene 6-3 (Make-up from Tuesday).
• G7: #5 Crofton defeated  #4 Lesterville 7-0. Crofton is either Rep #2 or Rep #3, Lesterville is eliminated

Friday, August 1st:

 

• G8: #3 Freeman vs #6 Irene (Winner is Rep #2 or #3, loser is eliminated).

 

Saturday, August 2nd:

• G9: #1 Tabor vs #2 Wynot (Winner is District Champ; Loser is Rep #1).

 

The Class A South District Amateur Baseball tournament will take place today and tomorrow in Yankton, with the Yankton Lakers entering as the #2 seed.

Yankton will play at 8:00 PM tonight, taking on the #3-seeded Sioux Falls Brewers. The top-seeded Harrisburg Woodies will face the #4-seeded Mitchell Aces in game one at 5:30.
