Yankton Post 12 wrapped up their west river trip this past Friday with a doubleheader sweep of Spearfish in Legion Baseball action.
Sam Gokie played a part in six of Yankton’s runs in game one, four RBIs and two runs scored, en route to an 11-0 win in five innings. Kaden Hunhoff earned the win on the mound, tossing four scoreless innings with a pair of strikeouts.
A six-run second inning led Yankton to a 9-1 win in game two. Gokie tied for the team-high in RBIs again with two, joined by Easton Feser and Jackson Kudera. Kudera also earned the win on the mound, striking out five batters over six innings.
Yankton is now 16-6 on the year with an 11-4 record in league play. Post 12 is on a break over the 4th of July holiday, returning to action on July 6th with a road doubleheader against Huron.
The Yankton Lakers topped the Lesterville Broncs last night, 9-6, in a battle of the top two teams in the South Central Amateur Baseball League.
A balanced offense saw every Yankton batter record a hit, as the Lakers tallied fourteen in total. Waylon McKnight ended the day 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI.
Tyler Edler and Brady Bierma powered the Broncs at the plate, combining to go 6-for-8 at the plate, with Edler driving in a pair of runs.
Lesterville’s next league matchup is scheduled for July 2nd, at home against the Tabor Bluebirds. Yankton is off for SCL play until July 9th. The Lakers will host the Sioux Falls Brewers on Tuesday in a non-league game.
The Freeman Black Sox weathered a late surge from the Wynot Expos last night to take an 8-6 victory in South Central League action.
The Expos trailed 8-3 entering the bottom of the ninth, until Lee Heimes launched a three-run home run to pull within two. Freeman would retire the next two batters for the win.
Heimes played a role in five of Wynot’s six runs, while Jake Weier’s perfect 6-for-6 day at the plate led Freeman to the win.
Wynot will travel to Crofton on Friday for their next league game, while Freeman will celebrate America’s 250th birthday on July 4th, on the road against Menno.
The Crofton Blue Jays picked up their 4th South Central League win of the season last night in dominant fashion, defeating Menno 16-5.
Zach Clark and Seth Wiebelhaus led the Crofton offense, as the pair accounted for five hits, four runs, and six RBIs.
The Menno trio of Connor Merriam, Macon Oplinger, and Dylan Lehr finished a combined 7-for-10 at the plate, with Merriam tallying three RBI.
Crofton will host Wynot on July 3rd for their next league game, with Menno set to host Freeman on the 4th.
